The Real Leaky Problem

robertreich: The arrest of Reality Leigh Winner, a 25-year-old federal contractor from Atlanta, Georgia, for leaking a National Security Agency report describing in far more detail than previously known Russian efforts to intrude in the 2016 election on behalf of Trump, comes in the midst of a deluge of Trump tweets and leaks. Among the most sensitive leaks about national security since the start of the Trump administration was Trump’s own Oval Office conversation with top Russian officials last month, in which he revealed allied intelligence information apparently coming from Israel. At that same meeting, Trump discussed his firing of former FBI Director James Comey the previous day, thereby relieving “great pressure” on him, he said. (Comey will be testifying before Congress Thursday). How do we even know about these discussions between Trump and Russian officials? They were leaked! So we had a leak about a leak, coupled with a leak about a potential coverup by the president of his attempt to obstruct justice. The essential message of the Justice Department’s decision to go after Reality Winner is that those who leak will be targeted for prosecution if the information they give journalists is about Russia helping Trump win the election. But let’s be clear. This particular leak of an NSA report is not the central problem. The problem is Russia has directly and brazenly interfered in our democratic system. Yet we don’t know exactly how – and we don’t have a means of stopping Russia from doing it again. The other part of the problem is that instead of resolutely focusing on this brazen attack on American democracy, we have president who’s been actively trying to obstruct public knowledge of what happened.

life-of-a-spoonie: cursivespine: hippyelfchick: moonblossom: francsforthememories: dewgonair: lockrocksandcoke: 131-di: veggiebaker: therunscape: Heart attacks symptoms are different for women. I recently learned this.  Everyone should know these things. thanks to mainstream media and being unable to show breasts on TV, way too few people know about female signs of cardiac distress, and impending heart attacks. they only know about the “pain in the left arm” male symptom. i had all these symptoms once and they sent me right to hospital it was scary bc i didnt know these were the symptoms for female heart issues Please, please, PLEASE, reblog this. i don’t know if I did save or called false alarm, with my boss’ life tonight. I felt I was being a bit paranoid, overreacting, but I told Mirage my thoughts and he, after reading over the article I showed him, immediately sprung into action and then shooed her off to the hospital. I don’t know if I did or not, but I knew she’d been super stressed. She’d off-handedly commented on her arm tingling and I asked her if she felt queasy on a hunch. I went to look at the symptoms and we went from there. Holy shit, I didn’t even think the symptoms would be different between men and women. This is so hugely important and I don’t understand why we aren’t taught this.  One of the other symptoms that doesn’t get talked about , especially in women, is a “feeling of impending doom”. I am not even kidding, that is a legitimate diagnostic criteria. Please - if you are feeling any of these symptoms and a sudden onset of “Holy shit the world is ending” do not let anyone tell you it’s “just nerves” or “just heartburn” or something. this is legit important to spread around but when you have a chronic illness this is like… any given day, and you just have to roll the dice that you’re still not actually dying when you have a particularly bad evening. can’t afford to go to the ER every week! I agree with @hippyelfchick …I have most of those symptoms any given day so I feel like it’s still a roll of the dice, however it is best to know the symptoms in case they aren’t your norm or are increased. Save a life. Be aware. Change a life. Reblog.

CBO: 22 million more uninsured under Senate health bill: politico: Senate Republicans’ health care bill would leave 22 million more Americans uninsured over a decade, according to a new Congressional Budget Office projection that could complicate the party’s push to hold a vote on the plan this week. The estimated coverage losses are just slightly lower than the House-passed version of the Obamacare repeal bill, which may alarm Republican moderates who have pushed Senate leaders to craft a more generous bill. “It makes me more concerned,” Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) said of the CBO score during an appearance on CNN. “I’ve been uncommitted and I remain uncommitted.” The Senate legislation would also cut the federal deficit by $321 billion over 10 years, driven by deep cuts to Medicaid and skimpier aid for people purchasing private coverage. Those savings far exceed the $119 billion target set by the House bill, meeting a key requirement for Republicans hoping to pass the Senate bill through a fast-track budget process needing just 51 votes. the-future-now: Scientists figured out how to convert polluted air into clean energy In an era of growing concern for the environment, scientists in Belgium have come up with the groundwork for one possible solution: converting air pollution into power. The device that can do it currently fits into the palm of a hand. It relies on solar power to convert polluted air compounds into stored hydrogen, a source of clean energy. It has two chambers separated by a membrane; one chamber cleans the air and the other generates the hydrogen gas. Air with a higher concentration of pollutants ultimately creates stronger electrical currents. This could be good news for cities such as Beijing, Delhi, India and Los Angeles, among many others.
